UK Masons visit the Sunny Province of Valencia – Spain

On the 20th May 2024, Norman Ship became the Master of the Old Tower Lodge No 49, in Spain. This is 10 years since Norman had been Master of his mother lodge – Kendleshire Lodge 8394 – in 2014.

It was great to have the support of 16 UK Masons and their partners who travelled to Spain for Norman’s installation, including: Norman’s proposer to Masonry (Andy Down) 3 of Norman’s 2014 Circle as well as 8 members of the Lodge of Saint Christophers No. 9095.

After travelling to Spain on Saturday 18th May, the well known visitors along with their families met up with Norman & Nic Ship on the Saturday evening to enjoy a good night out together, at a lovely restaurant in Torrevieja.

On Monday 20th May, almost everyone met for the taxi to Old Tower Lodge Temple in Quesada, Unfortunately for Mike Newcombe, he had become stuck in one of the Hotel lifts. Thankfully a little while later he was released and soon reunited with the other Brethren at the Lodge.

The Brethren were joined by the Provincial Grand Master of Valencia, Rodney Charles Bignell who was accompanied by no less that 12 Provincial officers. The visitors from the UK were then treated to an Installation ceremony which operates under the Grand Lodge of Spain, which is a slightly different ceremony and added signs.

There was an excellent festive board which was enjoyed by 60 brethren there to witness the special moment Normans proposer, Andy Down of Kendleshire Lodge, responded to the visiors toast..

As is custom on their trips to other lodges, The master of St Christophers Lodge, Matthew Houlden, presented a lodge plaque to the new master of Old Tower Lodge Norman Ship and the visiting UK brethren received lapel badges.

Whilst the Brethren were at the lodge & festive board, the ladies, including 5 from the Old Tower Lodge, attended a lovely afternoon lunch at a local restaurant in Torrevieja, and then drinks at the local yacht club.

We thank Norman for the article and all those who contributed photographs
