The first 2024 meeting of the “Unforgettable’s’ took place on Monday 8th January at The Old Nelson in Stroud. Started in 2023 by Colin Cresswell and Peter Berry, the group was set up to support retired and older members who like the idea of an informal catch up between lodge meetings. Today’s meeting was again well supported with some new faces, and the lodges of Sherborne, Hicks Beach, St Lawrence and Five Valleys were well represented. The group is open to all Freemasons and meets every two weeks at The Old Nelson, Stratford Road, Stroud at 12.30pm. There is no obligation to attend every meeting with some members just dropping in occasionally to suit other commitments. Today those attending enjoyed a coffee or a pint and a plate of cheesy chips while chatting about Freemasonry as well as talking about their working and services careers. There was also the now customary interlude for Geoff Browning to share some of his favourite jokes!
Attending the meeting for the first time Mark Smith, Assistant Head of Gloucestershire Freemasons said “this is a wonderful initiative and we are grateful to Colin and Peter for coming up with the idea and getting this group off the ground. Freemasonry is good at recruiting new members but it is just as important to provide support for older members so that they can continue to enjoy their membership in different ways and for extended periods. The Provincial Executive are keen to see this fantastic idea developed in other areas of Gloucestershire and will support any members looking to get a new group started”.
The next meetings are planned for:
February 5th & 19th
March 4th & 18th
