Record Attendance at the Cathedral Service

The assistant head of Gloucestershire Freemasons, Mark Smith, issued a challenge to the 83 Lodges to see which one could manage the best attendance at the service in Gloucester Cathedral at the weekend. As this was the last cathedral service the head of Gloucestershire Freemasons, Tim Henderson-Ross, will lead before stepping down next May Mark’s call was taken up with alacrity. Tim will have served Gloucestershire’s Freemasons for ten years and they were keen to show their admiration and respect by attending with their wives and families. The Verger seemed impressed as he thought the congregation had probably topped five hundred! The hymn ‘Jerusalem’, which echoes the values of Freemasonry, was as always delivered with considerable gusto by the packed congregation though perhaps not to the sublime quality of the choir who had tried to set the standard beforehand.

So which lodge managed the best turnout of its members on Sunday? Let’s start the batting with May Hill Lodge headed by its master, Jason Marfell. If any other lodge wishes to claim the title please send your photograph to provcomoff@glosmasons.org.uk

A full report on the event with photographs from our two volunteer photographers follows in due course.
