Perseverance Lodge Centenary

Cheltenham’s Perseverance Lodge celebrated its Centenary in Grand style at Cheltenham Town Hall in October, laying on a spectacular event which was heartily attended by 400 Masons and guests.

The Lodge chose to give the event a smattering of 1920’s style in homage to the Consecration date which took place in 1923.  Following the Masonic meeting in which the Centenary Warrant was presented to the Master Reg Barton a Formal Reception ensued and was graced by a trio of Vintage 1920’s singers who really set the tone in The Pillar Room.  The Lodge felt it necessary to mark the Centenary and honour its founder members, by replicating elements of the Consecration, not least by using the very same building in which Cheltenham’s first Lodge came into being.

The Province provided a full retinue of Officers throughout and The Provincial Grand Master ably assisted by his team graced the occasion with their presence.  The Provincial Chaplain R J Westacott gave the address in Lodge to the Brethren at the meeting, and the Provincial Team occupied all the Senior Offices as custom has it.  The Lodge reports that they were humbled by the event and support of not only The Provincial Team, but also the Lodges of The Province, many of whom took a table at the Banquet, inviting many family and friends.  Event organiser Simon Daws, Chaplain of the Lodge added “to see such a magnificent room as the main Ballroom at the Town Hall full to the gunnels was everything we had wished for.  Perseverance was supported on the night by so many other Lodges and Masonry in Gloucestershire was the winner.  We can further report that the generous charitable giving on the night raised over £5000 for two Charities, The James Hopkins Trust and Maggies Cancer Support in Cheltenham.
