Nightstop Needs Your Help

Gloucestershire Freemasons have supported Nightstop, a charity based in Gloucester, which provides emergency accommodation for young people throughout Gloucestershire. We were therefore invited to see their new ‘Daystop’ facility which provides kitchen, laundry and shower facilities during the day.

Whilst we were there the charity explained that although the number of hosts is rebuilding after Covid they are urgently in need of more, particularly in certain parts of the county. If you have a spare bedroom you could help someone who has suddenly lost their own home for a few nights until a longer term solution can be found.

“Young people facing homelessness are referred to our service when they have nowhere else to go. They may have been kicked out due to a breakdown in relationship, or decided to leave because their home was no longer safe. When they come to us we risk assess them, including probationary checks and professional references to ensure that they fit our ‘low risk’ criteria, and we are confident they are suitable to be placed with a host.

We equip our hosts with training, and support around the clock. There is a 24/7 on call service for both the host and young people should they need it. We work closely with our hosts to ensure they are comfortable, and their work with us is suited around their lives. We deliver the service on a night-by-night basis. We also cover expenses that our hosts may incur whilst having a young person stay.

Gloucestershire Nightstop now have a new hub, a new team and new services. Not only will a young person no longer be homeless, but they will be supported to build the foundations and gain their own independence for their own life.
