Installing a new Master is always an occasion for any Lodge. However, the Lodge of Sympathy’s May Installation was just a little bit more special and emotional. Lodge master, Peter Prater, kindly stepped aside to allow Peter Fray to conduct the ceremony of Installation of his son Johnathan Fray.

The occasion was especially memorable on account of having the new Head of Gloucestershire Freemasonry, Ian Michael Davies, in attendance. Ian was accompanied by his Provincial Team, under the direction of Chris West, on their first official visit since Ian’s appointment.
Ian, himself a member of Sympathy Lodge, was keen to be involved in the proceedings and accepted the gavel momentarily to help organise the lodge officers for the ceremony. The control was then handed over to Fray Senior for the installation ceremony.

Jonathan’s Grandfather was also a member of the lodge though passed away before he could see his grandson Installed. He would have been extremely proud of both his son and grandson.

The roller coaster of emotions continued through to the Festive Board, from the master’s toast to his Installing father, whose response was an opportunity to remember his late father. Adding to the sense of occasion, the newly installed Provincial Grand Master gave his first response to the provincial toast. There was hardly a dry eye in the room from both members and visitors!

A superb evening of fellowship, and fun.
