Hambrook Lodge Burns Night – Sangs and Clatter!

Every January provides good reason for lodges to extol the memory of eminent poet, lyricist and freemason – Brother Robert Burns.  It was no exception when friends, family and brethren of Hambrook Lodge, were in suitably raucous form at Stapleton as the haggis was piped in.  Looking every bit a Laird of the Glen, Iain Sim addressed the wee beastie, whilst the Worshipful Master, Mark Mullens, carried off a creditable physical impersonation of a well dressed Rab C Nesbitt, announcing the varied entertainment in store.  Copious amounts of the amber nectar necessarily flowed, consumption of which undoubtedly afforded a further obstacle for competitors attempting to recite verses of one of the Bard’s poems.  Dave Foreman, visiting from Lodge of Sincerity, emerged the ‘clapometer’ winner . . . volume plainly succeeding over linguistic dexterity!  Other winners were the two charities which will benefit from well in excess of £500 raised on the night: Children’s Hospice Southwest and 13TH Bristol Scouts based at All Saints Church, Fishponds.
