Gloucestershire Brethren Head North

Gloucestershire Brethren really are taking the lead in visiting lately and Monday the 19th February was no exception.

Matty Brown of Royal Lebanon lodge, was cordially invited to Campbell Lodge No. 3643 in Moseley – Birmingham, meeting in the Province of Worcestershire.

The meeting was rather unique and as always Matt thought this would be a fantastic opportunity for our ‘light blue’ Brethren, as well as our more experienced, to enjoy a very special evening. Gloucestershire had eight Brethren including our Assistant Provincial Grand Master – Ian Davies and Olly Seymour in addition to a fine selection of the Prorsum Semper membership from Bristol, Dursley, Cheltenham & Stow with the clubs illustrious Chairman, Brian Morris taking care of chauffeuring duties.

The Lodge was celebrating the redesign of their banner and received a banner rededication with full provincial attendance.  This was closely followed by a double 2nd Degree ceremony and an immaculate presentation of the extended second degree tools; a full evening indeed.

Worcestershire’s provincial team, Including  Stephen John Wyer – Head of Worcestershire freemasons –  chaired the ceremony of the banner rededication. These ceremonies are done with great respect to history and protocol and it was clear to all in attendance that the investment of time in planning and rehearsal certainly paid off.

Scott Jones directed the subsequent second degree ceremony in his last meeting as lodge Master and did a fantastic job. In addition, Brother John showcased to the visiting Brethren the standard of ritual at Campbell lodge by presenting the candidates with an extended explanation of the second degree tools.

Gloucestershire Brethren do not need much encouragement to make themselves at home and enjoy a good festive board, taking full advantage of the warm greetings and abundant fellowship Campbell lodge has to offer. Visitors unanimously agreed they had a fantastic time chatting and laughing with all the lodge members and one another. It was great to see Ian Davies receiving the rich, fraternal fellowship from Worcestershire’s provincial executive and their congratulations on his upcoming appointment.

Moseley Masonic Centre boasts the largest room for ceremonies in their province, they have two further temples in one of which another lodge meeting was in full swing that evening . It is a superb building and each lodge room has its own beauty and uniqueness. They also hold one of the finest masonic ladies nights you would have the pleasure of attending. Indeed something in the works between a Gloucestershire lodge and themselves for later in the year.

We thank Matthew Brown of Royal Lebanon for the article and Brody Swain for the excellent photos.
