Community First Responders Honoured at ‘The Hill’

South Western Ambulance Service Trust (SWAST) recently held their awards ceremony at ‘The Hill’. ‘The Hill’ is not only the Freemasons Hall in Stroud but also a very popular venue for local events with magnificent views over the Five Valleys.

There is a very close affinity between the emergency services and Freemasonry. Both organisations share a close camaraderie. More important than that however the two organisations share the particular values of service to those in need in the community. It was therefore very fitting that Gloucestershire Freemasonry had offered SWAST the use of ‘The Hill’ for their expression of gratitude to their Community First Responders (CFR). A CFR responds to an emergency call to the ambulance control centre in their local area, which means that they are quickly on hand to provide life saving intervention until an ambulance arrives.

Our newly minted Provincial Grand Master, Ian Davies, and two of the Directors of the Hall were there to make everyone welcome. There were over 70 Community First Responders (CFR) and their families as well as senior members of SWAST such as the Director of Operations and Head of Volunteering and the Head of Fundraising.  Peter Phillips was there to make the presentations and it was a very rewarding and inspiring evening for all present.

The common ground between the two organisations was vividly demonstrated when one of our very own Gloucestershire Freemasons, Jim Jones of Innsworth Lodge, received his Coronation medal. The medals were presented to those who had served five years or more at the time of the Coronation.

Our photographs show:

Our thanks to Ian Davies for sending us an account of the awards and for the photographs.
