Ian “Wingco” Whittern, the Worshipful Master of Hambrook Lodge, is also Chairman of Bristol Air Scouts, and he brought an aviation theme to his social evening at Stapleton on Saturday. The function, which included music and magic, also saw guests fiercely competing for the aviator’s King’s Cup. It was a fund-raiser for Ian’s local charity of choice this year, ONE25, a women’s charity which reaches out to some of the most marginalised women. An amazing sum, well in excess of £1600, was raised on the night.
This achievement was assisted, not least, by a series of donations of time and product. Former school-mate, Adrian Kirikmaa, now a renowned cordon bleu chef, freely provided his skills assisted by a troop of helpers; the victuals also sponsored. The donation of a helicopter trip out of Staverton for three people raised £500 alone.
“I must thank everyone for their ‘spiffing’ help,” said Ian. “Bang on!”
