It was a double celebration at Sherborne Lodge in Stroud as the Lodge marked its 1000th meeting and celebrated fifty years of service to Freemasonry by W Bro Frank Smith PJGD. W Bro Mark Smith, Assistant Head of Gloucestershire Freemasons, was on hand to “interview” Frank as he shared many interesting stories about his life and interests. Originally from North East London Frank was briefly evacuated to Stinchcombe during the war before returning to London. Following a grammar school and university education, he worked with young offenders at HMP Rochester (or Borstal as it is more commonly known). Aged twenty four he was offered the position of Head of Geography at Wycliffe College where he continued taking on many roles and responsibilities until he retired. Frank entertained nearly one hundred members who had gathered for the event with his quick wit and interesting stories. He was thanked for his outstanding service to Freemasonry and for all the help, assistance, guidance and support he has given to so many members over the last fifty years as he was presented with his certificate and lapel pin. “I have known Frank for over twenty years, what at honour, privilege and complete joy it has been to mark this special moment” said Mark.
We thank Mark Smith for sending us this article and add our congratulations to Frank Smith for the help and support he has given to many of us over the years.
