A Special Meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge

Brethren from across the Province and visiting brethren from far and wide gathered today at Tortworth Court for a special meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge. The head of craft freemasonry in a province changes only once in every 7-10 years, so it was no surprise that this meeting was over subscribed many times. In no small part due to the popularity of the incoming RW Provincial Grand Master – Ian Michael Davies.

The meeting was opened by VW Brother David Rhodri Mason – Deputy Provincial Grand Master In charge, shortly after Sir Michael Snyder – Deputy Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England – presided to install the RW Provincial Grand Master (Head of Gloucestershire Freemasonry).

Following his installation the Provincial Grand Master appointed and invested the following rulers:

Deputy Provincial Grand Master – Mark Benjamin Smith

Assistant Provincial Grand Master – Peter Stanley Watkins

Assistant Provincial Grand Master – Mark Steventon-Smith

The meeting was then called off (Temporarily suspended), for a celebratory Luncheon.

Provincial Grand Lodge called on at 3pm for the usual business of Provincial Grand Lodge, the RW Provincial Grand Master acknowledged distinguished guests visiting from further afield. Deputy Provincial Grand Master – Mark Benjamin Smith then remembered brethren who have passed away in the last year. The Provincial Grand Master then appointed and invested his officers for the ensuing year and presented honours to various brethren to acknowledge their continued support of Gloucestershire Freemasonry.

In his closing address to those present, which we will cover in more detail shortly, he announced the forthcoming 5 year festival 2029 which starts in November. The festival will be briefed to all brethren in a series of presentations, starting in September and going on to October; watch this space for more details.

The meeting was then closed when the Provincial Grand Master retired from the lodge accompanied by distinguished brethren including many Provincial Grand Masters past and present.

Provincial Grand Lodge does not happen without a huge amount of effort and dedication from the Provincial Grand Secretary’s team, the DC’s team, the Grand Stewards Lodge and numerous volunteers. The RW Provincial Grand Master was quick to acknowledge this and extend his thanks to each and every one of those who made the day such a resounding success.

Further pictures and video will follow over the coming week.

We congratulate the Provincial Grand Master on his appointment and all those Brethren who received appointments and honours today.
