Alan Beavis honoured with OBE -

Alan, who was one of the founders of Impeesa Lodge in 1990, has been honoured for his services to Scouting and now he has to 'be prepared' for a trip to Buckingham Palace to receive a well-deserved OBE.

He became a Wolf Cub in Bristol in 1949 and after progressing through the various sections,
became involved primarily with adult support. He is now renowned for his participation in international Scouting and has encouraged hundreds of young people to undertake community service in Africa.

NEW YEAR MESSAGE

from the

PROVINCIAL GRAND MASTER

After the holiday period and as we start the beginning of a new decade I hope that the winter weather is not unduly disrupting your daily lives.

2010 is now before us but 2009 was a good year.  Despite the constraints which have been placed upon us due to the current financial situation, much progress has been made in several initiatives.  We have a good flow of new younger members, although sadly some Brethren have passed away.

During December I was kept busy distributing some £70,000 to Charities working within Gloucestershire for the benefit of Gloucestershire people.  The comments made by the recipients have been most generous and make me extremely appreciative of the work these organisations carry out in the community for the benefit of us all.  It also reinforces the wonderful support that Gloucestershire Freemasons are providing throughout the Province.

May I take this opportunity to thank you all for the tremendous amount of work that you undertake for the benefit of those living in Gloucestershire and beyond.

My congratulations to Alan Beavis on the announcement that the Queen is to invest him as an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in recognition of his services to Scouting - it was only last year that he was Worshipful Master Impesa Lodge.

I hope that 2010 brings you and your families Good Health and Happiness.

Gloucestershire Freemasons help Cumbrian flood emergency
An initial £1000 has already been sent to the Freemasons of Cumberland and Westmorland to provide immediate help to affected families.
The Provincial Grand Almoner Roger Dakin said,
“Clearly, the news of the scale of the emergency in Cumbria is horrendous.  As we were nearly 3 years ago, so the Province of Cumberland and Westmorland is now facing all of the URGENT questions of what to do and how to progress.
When the Gloucestershire floods occurred we found we had few funds that were eligible for relieving immediate distress of the people of Gloucestershire so on Friday we sent an initial £1000 from our own Relief Fund to enable them to provide immediate help to establish their own Fund.
I have shared with them how we raised funds and processed claims for emergency relief grants from Freemasons Grand Charity."
The Provincial Grand Secretary of Westmorland and Cumberland, Michael Davies, said, “We thank you for your instantaneous and generous support. In addition your advice and experience have assisted in formulating our own strategy.”
During, and as a consequence of the Gloucestershire floods, the Gloucestershire Freemasons have established a Community Action and Support Team under the leadership of Ray Drew, details of which are being shared with other organisations.

For over 270 years Freemasons have been meeting in Gloucestershire and today there are 80 Lodges in the Province – which is based on the pre-1974 County boundaries.

The Provincial Grand Lodge of Gloucestershire, with offices at The Masonic Hall, Venn’s Acre, Wotton-under Edge, is one of 47 regional grouping of Lodges. .

We hope that you will find this web site interesting and that it enables you to find answers to your questions if not do ask us.

Try going to our News page and for a link to the Channel 4 programme 'Decoded: The lost Symbol'  and read about how Dan Brown's latest book "The Lost Symbol"  is supportive of Freemasonry. He writes "It is my sincere hope that The Masonic community recognizes The Lost Symbol for what it truly is ....an earnest attempt to reverentially explore the history and beauty of Masonic Philosophy." He also asks Masons to accept his humble thanks for the noble example they set for humankind.

Thank you for your visit - we shall be pleased to assist with individual queries on hearing from you.
